This website is inspired by the work of Andrew Farris, founder of On This Spot. I stumbled across his website back in 2015 and was amazed by a stunning set of “now and then” photographs of Glasgow. Not only did they juxtapose the modern city with its architectural past, but it did so in a clever and interesting way. By allowing you to slide between the two images, you can compare what remains, what has changed and what has sadly disappeared.
To give the full effect it is sometimes necessary to gently manipulate the images to allow for slight differences in perspective. It seems that the old photographers of Glasgow routinely traipsed about with a set of stepladders. This manipulation can sometimes result in a slightly blurry image. This is something I’m working on.
